Man City Players Step Out for Fashion
May 7, 2012 No CommentsFresh from their victory over rivals Manchester United, the players of Man City yesterday showed off more than their fancy footwork when they took to the catwalk at the Fashion Kicks event.
Fashion Kicks is a charity event raising money to support a variety of charities which this year included Macmillan Cancer Support, Beechwood Cancer Care Centre in Stockport and the Adopt a School Project. It was founded by Shay and Jane Given in 2004 and has proven to be highly successful, raising over £145,000 in 2011.
This year the Blues start out in force to support the event included Vincent Kompany, Kolo Toure, Gareth Barry and Adam Johnson who all took to the catwalk to strut their stuff. Man of the match, or even catwalk, had to be Adam Johnson who brought the house down with his Vivienne Westwood man-skirt – will Blues followers copy their hero’s style I wonder?
There to see the men’s fashion show was X Factor judge Louis Walsh, model Abbey Clancy and Coronation Street’s Jennie McAlpine. The host for the evening’s entertainment was TV presenter Dawn Porter.
The lads seemed to be thrilled to participate in this year’s event which looked set to raise over a million pounds. Adam Johnson said “It’s absolutely brilliant for us all to come and let our hair down tonight at such a fantastic charity event after such a good result in the derby.” And indeed they had plenty to celebrate!
One player however had to retire to the bench. Goalie Joe Hart was meant to be modelling on the catwalk with the rest of the City players but due to an injury sustained in the match against United, he had to watch from the benches as his teammates took all the glory.
Also showcasing on the catwalk was a dapper display of men’s suits and trendy urban clothing from Selfridges and Co along with the odd designer appearance. I wonder if Vivien Westwood can really take her man-skirt to the masses? Perhaps she will score where Beckham missed? Watch this space!
