Stone Island is Mad on Men’s Fashion

The award-winning Sky Atlantic series Mad Men is being held responsible for the changing trends in men’s fashion by some observers.
Fashion followers cannot help but note that men’s suits have made quite a big comeback, with Savile Row enjoying catwalk accolades and grey suits with skinny ties suddenly being the fashion statement of the season amongst trendy young things. Could this be down to the popularity of the series and characters of Mad Men?
As the series moves into the late 60s the fashion of the male characters, as well as the female ones, changes accordingly. Gone are the bland grey suits of the men and the boxy, conservative styles of the women in favour of bright bold colours, such as those long liked by Stone Island designers, and checked suits. Is it a coincidence that the fashion world has followed suit?
Little changes as far as office attire is concerned, but just look at the Mad Men series 5 when the characters are relaxing. Don’s party is a case in point, the men are wearing checked suits that are awash with colour to match the bright colour statements of the women. Now look at what’s in for men in 2012 – checks, bold colours, graphic prints and a flair for the eccentric are all catwalk favourites for men’s fashion 2012.
Designer clothes shops and stores are stocking up on hot fashion pieces which include brightly coloured and patterned shirts along with striped and checked blazers and jackets and bold printed t-shirts. It seems that if it’s good enough for the likes of Don and the other male employees at Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce then it’s good enough for today’s fashion conscious male.
Of course it may also be a coincidence that series 5 starts off in the year 1966 which is widely considered to be a boom as far as men’s fashion is concerned. Such a coincidence is not lost on men’s fashion designers such as Gucci and Costume National who have been pre-empting the fashion trends of Mad Men and have already filled up the catwalks with printed tailoring and checks.
The popular men’s label of Stone Island has already launched its Spring/Summer collection which features bold reds, greens and blues, especially in the Stone Island t-shirt range which includes the famous compass logo emblazoned on the front. And Stone Island footwear smacks of the vintage range with two-tone colours that have quite an early Nike look to them.
Now that Stone Island has relocated its UK store to the heart of London, you can order and buy Stone Island mainstream clothing, the Stone Island Shadow Project and junior clothes either online or direct from their store.
